Katie Wang’s practice encompasses all areas of intellectual property including patents, trademarks, and copyrights, with a particular emphasis on chemical and pharmaceutical patents.

 

A major aspect of Katie’s patent practice focuses on the management of patent portfolios and providing legal opinions to her clients. She advises clients on strategically developing and maximizing their patent portfolios to gain market advantages vis-à-vis competitors.  Katie also provides clients with IP due diligence services such as pre-acquisition patent portfolio assessment and reviews.  She has in-depth experience in opinion drafting and has provided dozens of patent opinions, including infringement, validity, patentability, and freedom-to-operate assessments ranging from chemical, pharmaceutical, biochemical, mechanical, to gaming and computer network technologies.

 

As a Registered Patent Agent in Canada, another major aspect of Katie’s patent practice focuses on the drafting and prosecution of chemical and pharmaceutical patents. She also has experience in conflict proceedings, protest, and re-examination procedures.

 

Katie also provides clients with licensing negotiation and IP audit services. She has wide experience in negotiating and drafting agreements, including license, research & development, technical consulting, distribution, assignment, web-development, and confidentiality agreements.

 

Katie is active in litigation matters on the enforcement of patent, trademark, and copyrights as well as domain name and licensing disputes. She is a Registered Trade-mark Agent in Canada. Katie is fluent in Mandarin and uses her language skills to assist her clients in IP and transactional matters relating to China.

 

Katie studied Physical and Organic Chemistry before pursuing her legal career. She has extensive research experience and has co-authored scientific publications as well as presented her work at scientific conferences and symposia.  While in law school, she summered at the IP department of a leading national firm and worked on Patented Medicines Regulation (NOC) and patent infringement litigation.
